Cleveland Clinic Florida Announces Visitor Restrictions and Postponement of Elective Procedures

Monday, March 23rd, 2020

Cleveland Clinic Florida has implemented new visitor restrictions for each of its hospitals and outpatient locations during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Cleveland Clinic Martin Health has already started visitor restrictions at its hospitals and outpatient locations. Cleveland Clinic Weston and Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital will be implementing restrictions beginning Monday, March 23.

Outpatient Locations:

No guests or visitors are permitted to accompany adult patients, unless special assistance is required. Patients requiring special assistance are limited to only one visitor; all others will not be permitted to enter.  Any visitors must be 16 and older and will be required to wash their hands or use sanitizer before entering and after leaving clinical areas and waiting rooms.

Hospital Locations:

No guests or visitors will be permitted. Exceptions will be made for the following patients:

  • Pediatric patients (one visitor permitted)
  • Labor and delivery patients (one visitor permitted)
  • End-of-life circumstances (patient’s care team will discuss with family)

Postponement of Nonessential Procedures

We continue to adapt to the evolving COVID-19 situation, with the primary goal of keeping our patients and caregivers safe.

Clinical leadership from the Cleveland Clinic Florida region have developed plans, processes and procedures for postponing nonessential surgeries and related procedures for adult and pediatric patients. This change will help conserve hospital beds, equipment and supplies while protecting healthcare workers in preparation for a potential surge of patients with COVID-19.

Effective immediately, Cleveland Clinic Florida will use guidelines set by CMS to determine which procedures are nonessential and should be postponed. Going forward, procedures must be lifesaving for the patient, preserving function of organs or limbs, reducing risk of metastasis or progression of disease, or reducing risk of severe symptoms.

Patients scheduled for these services have been contacted to discuss next steps. If you have any questions, please contact your physician’s office.
