When your child is ill, having access to high-quality pediatric services close to home is critical. The hospitalists, nurses, therapists, and support staff at IRMC are constantly looking for new ways to enhance and improve our care for pediatric patients. In order to better serve our young patients and their families, IRMC partnered with Nemours Children’s Hospital in 2014.

Partnership with Nemours Children’s Hospital

Indian River Medical Center has partnered with Nemours Children’s Hospital to provide enhanced pediatric services to our patients.

A valuable resource for parents and children in the community, the partnership will enhance IRMC’s existing pediatric hospitalist service. Pediatric hospitalists are pediatricians who work within the hospital, caring for children in many hospital areas, including Labor and Delivery, Newborn Nursery, Pediatric Inpatient Unit and the Emergency Department.

This new partnership will include a medical director from Nemours at IRMC with 24/7 pediatric hospitalist coverage. The role provided by the pediatric hospitalists is to assist in the care of babies during and after birth, provide routine medical clearance for pediatric psych patients, and be available for consultation and care of pediatric patients presenting through the IRMC Emergency Department.

Annually, more than 1,000 babies are born at IRMC and more than 9,700 children receive care in the ER. More than 1,200 children are admitted to IRMC as inpatients each year, with a total of 2,400 days spent in the hospital on average.
