Surgery

Top-rated surgeons and excellent outcomes set IRMC’s surgical program apart from other hospitals. Our physicians participate in blind studies at the state and national level in an effort to continuously improve patient care and outcomes.

The latest American College of Surgeons Florida Surgical Care Initiative Report, listed Indian River Medical Center as #1 in the state in lowest death/serious morbidity in Colon Surgery and #2 in the state in lowest death/serious morbidity in Surgery in Elderly Patients.

Today, minimally invasive surgery is becoming more and more common in hospitals. These procedures are performed through tiny incisions instead of one large opening. Because the incisions are small, patients tend to have quicker recovery times and less discomfort than with conventional surgery — all with the same benefits.

Plus many surgical procedures are performed as laparoscopic or robotic procedures. Thanks to laparoscopic and robotic procedures surgeons are able to make several small incisions – and sometimes just one incision – instead of the large ones required in the past to access the surgical environment.
